Truckers: the unsung heroes of our nation’s economy. Without the dedication of our nation’s truckers, the economy would grind to a halt. Truckers are the heroes of our economy, but that doesn’t mean their job can be taken for granted. Truckers face tough conditions and long hours, but keep our nation’s economy moving forward.
Truckers are continuously exposed to a number of safety risks that could lead to serious injury or even death. Truckers are exposed to these risks because they are in an isolated, dangerous environments. and require a high level of concentration. Especially in the port areas. Some of the drivers are paid well, but they are far and in between. According to Ryan Johnson, a truck driver for 20 years, truckers stay long hours in ports and can go over 8 hours. It can be a tiring and exhausting process.
To reduce these risks, truckers must have access to healthy food. Unfortunately, truck stops tend to provide only fast food, which is loaded with calories and fat and lacks the nutrients that truckers need to be able to function safely. According to research by Occupational Environmental and Economic Journal, they tested several truck drivers on eating healthy foods. They found out that the ones eating healthier were more attentive in driving than other drivers that ate snacks and foods. Access to healthy food is a must. If people focus on delivering foods in areas such as warehouse facilities, terminals, and truckstops, truckers can increase their reach to healthy food.
